Each animal chapter of the Physiologus section is illustrated with a picture of the beast being discussed. There is also a portrait of Epiphanius. The animal illustrations are about 6.7 cm square (8.8 mm including the frame); the portrait is about 10.5 cm tall by 7.2 cm wide (14 cm x 8.5 cm including the frame), and are all copperplate engravings. There are eight woodcut decorated initials; the printer's mark on the title page is also a woodcut.

The illustrations are often complex, with many interesting details. Some of those details will be discussed in the following sections.

  1. Copperplate engravings
  2. Image borders
  3. Woodcut initials and printers mark
  4. Landscapes
