The page layout and mock-up for Volume 2 Number 5 of The Microscope (1939-40) was created with typewriter and by hand with different coloured inks, pencil, rulered lines, scissored editing and, of course, paste. The header reads:

The Microscope: Our Circulation Is So Low That Gangrene Is Setting In
The Microscope:  Sees Nothing...Magnifies All


The Women

Front Page Headlines for this edition were:  Microscope Scoops Associated Press, Flash:  Exclusive From Overseas Correspondent, All the Matter Society Meeting:  Stoodents Heckle, Dunkers Doings.

Sloan's Slants, on page two, reported on sporting events and teams:  First Rugby Game Sat, Table Tennis, Swimming Experiment, Soccer Soars, Basketball, Grass Hockey Fades, Badminton, Bouquets.

The two columns on page three discussed plans for the 1940 annual, and the three spring plays.

Page four's "Craigdarroch Comment" by Anatole starts with the author's admittance of being in "an ugly mood" before he launches into his column's denounication of freshmen's pretentious college airs.

Society news, featured on page five, read:  Harper Pays Tribute to Female Forbears: Addresses Future Father's League, Council Room Branded as 'Love Nest', and Woo-Woo! Co-Ed Ball to Start Week of Woo.
